TAKE ACTION

I am a brand

A failing food system is damaging to people, businesses, and the planet. Currently, the hidden environmental and health costs caused by food sector practices is estimated at $12 trillion a year and is expected to rise to $16 trillion by 2050.  Shifting to sustainable business models in the food and agriculture sectors could generate an additional $2.3 trillion in revenue and 80 million jobs globally by 2030.

Businesses have been part of the problem for far too long.

Join us to become part of the solution.

We’ve outlined four key areas for brands to take action:

Raise awareness of nutrition insecurity and underlying causes

  • Create joint marketing campaigns, public activations and education efforts to highlight the root causes of nutrition insecurity and help shift the narrative to include “food justice.”
  • Use open source toolkits, social assets, and messaging frameworks to help engage your employee base and consumer audience around issues.
  • Check out policy & advocacy guides, including priority recommendations.
  • Send issue-driven communications to internal audiences i.e. brand leadership and workforce.
  • Host a resource hub for further learnings and/or information on external resources like SNAP or Federal Subsidy Programs, etc.

Reimagine corporate giving to establish a minimum standard for grassroots funding

  • Reevaluate your giving framework to include allocation of philanthropic funds to community-led, grassroots organizations.
  • Partner with organizations offering equity-building, systems-based solutions to food and nutrition access.

Accelerate social entrepreneurs with business-led solutions to democratize healthy living and provide equitable access to nutritious food

  • Establish the HLC Accelerator as a platform to share cross-sector points of view, strategy, and expertise with emerging social entrepreneurs.
  • Devote capital and non-capital brand resources to help scale businesses that democratize healthy living/access to nutritious food.

Adapt corporate policies that educate and empower employees to improve nutrition access and overall wellbeing

  • Use comprehensive HLC Action Plan to drive progress across issue areas like wage adjustments, increased employee purchasing power, and affordability of nutritious foods.
  • Create specific working groups of brands and NPO advisors that activate unique expertise across focused issue areas.
  • Send internal surveys with fixed KPIs and metrics that evaluate improvements in employee health and nutrition access.
